The LANL Foundation has released a major statewide study, co-funded by the Thornburg Foundation and produced with Education Research & Development, on how to strengthen teacher professional learning in New Mexico. Drawing on national research and input from more than 2,000 educators, the report finds that steady, on-the-job, collaborative learning, rather than one-time workshops, is key to better student outcomes and keeping teachers in the classroom. As Tim Bedeaux, K–12 Education Policy Officer at the Thornburg Foundation, put it, New Mexico’s teachers don’t want more mandates. They want more time and better-designed opportunities to learn from one another.
