Direct support, right where we live.

Our Community Funding program supports the local organizations providing essential services, education and housing stability across Greater Santa Fe.

01 — Our vision

The Thornburg Foundation envisions a Santa Fe where youth, families and vulnerable populations have access to the services they need today, the education and opportunity to build toward tomorrow, and a meaningful voice in the policies that shape both.

03Our Commitment

The Thornburg Foundation’s deep commitment to Greater Santa Fe.

The Thornburg Foundation's Community Funding program reflects our deep commitment to the greater Santa Fe community. We support local organizations on the front lines of human services, education, homelessness and policy — organizations that exhibit strong leadership, sound financial management, a commitment to excellence and a history of making a difference in their field or community.

04How we’re going about it
3 strategies

Three focus areas.

Strategy 01

Human Services

We support organizations that promote the health and wellbeing of youth, families and communities through essential services like food, housing and other critical social support.

Strategy 02

Youth Engagement

We believe that combining a high-quality education with a passion for the arts keeps students engaged and builds the resilience they need to succeed long-term. We fund statewide arts mastery schools, impactful youth programs and the wraparound support services that keep students in school and on track.

Strategy 03

Homelessness

We support organizations on the front lines of outreach, shelter and services for people experiencing homelessness in Santa Fe, as well as those advancing the policy changes needed to move people out of homelessness and into stability for good.

05The work in action
Recent wins

A 25-Year Commitment

The Foundation has given operational grants to homelessness providers and other frontline Santa Fe organizations for more than two decades — even as our strategic initiatives have grown, we have remained firmly committed to sustaining the human service and education organizations serving the community.

A Coordinated Strategy on Homelessness

In 2022, the Foundation launched an initiative that brought together city, county, philanthropic and nonprofit organizations to advance a common strategy for tackling homelessness in Santa Fe — an approach now being extended through the Foundation's dedicated Housing initiative.

Reaching Students Who Need It Most

The Adelante Program, a longtime Community Funding grantee, identifies and supports students in Santa Fe Public Schools who lack stable housing. During the 2025–2026 school year, Adelante provided services for 1,036 students from 491 families — a snapshot of the intensifying need for the wraparound services Community Funding supports.
